Finally a Texas Orange Throat Darter

I finally caught a fish in Brushy Creek right here in Round Rock, that I have been chasing for a long time. I now know that the Texas Orange Throat Darter does exist right here at home. I thought you would enjoy the picture of one of the most colorful fish in Texas freshwater rivers, creeks and streams. It is only 2.5 inches long but a trophy fish to me.

Here is a link to an article I wrote on the Texas Orange Throat Darter.

I really like the markings on that fish. Do you know hoe big they get?

Thanks for the kind words guys. Merry Christmas to each of you and may each of you try to make a kid happy. I gave out some BB guns and created some memories for kids and some bad looks from their parents. But that is what Grand Dads and Uncles are supposed to do, RIGHT. :)

I'm a new fan, Ed, and added you and Zach to my blog roll and here's a post about it:

Anyway, I live not too far from you, and look forward to reading about your adventures. I've been enjoying the archives of your blog and Zach's blog.

I'm a big shooter and fly and surf fisherman as well.

BTW, Brushy Creek holds special significance to me, and I think it's very cool that you have a freshwater aquarium.

Fishing Musician you have been added to my roll as well. Ed

That is a very lovely fish! Your project is, by far, one of the best home education ideas that I have seen in quite some time.

Merry Christmas, Ed!

What I meant in my above comment was that I've caught a lot of these fish in seines in various rivers and creeks in Texas, and some bigger ones when I was using teeny tiny hooks for sunfish using bacon as bait.

The bigger ones might have been a variant of what you've got in your aquarium.

Say, do you happen to know where the "Battle of Brushy [Creek]"
was fought in 1839? I need to visit there...

Located on private property off Circle G Ranch Road just to the west of State Highway 195, four miles south of Taylor, the monument is a tombstone-sized slab of red granite bearing a bronze plaque that says:

Gave Their Lives
In The
Battle of Brushy
